NEW DELHI: During the Brics foreign ministers' meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov secured an exclusive audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while other leaders jointly called on the PM. Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi separately met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Key Discussions
According to an official Indian readout, Lavrov briefed Modi on the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation since their December 2025 meeting during the 23rd India-Russia annual summit. The two leaders also deliberated on various regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the situations in Ukraine and West Asia. Modi reiterated India's consistent stand in favor of dialogue and diplomacy as the best way forward to resolve conflicts.
Exclusive Meeting
Lavrov was the only foreign minister whom Modi met privately during the summit. The Prime Minister also asked Lavrov to convey his warm greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a post on X, Modi stated that the Brics grouping has emerged as an important platform for advancing cooperation among emerging economies and giving voice to the aspirations of the Global South. He added, "Under India's Chairmanship this year, we will work together to strengthen multilateralism, promote sustainable development, enhance economic resilience, and build a more inclusive world order."
