Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has called on BRICS nations to stand united against what he termed as 'bullying' by the United States. Speaking at a BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, he emphasized the need for collective action to counter unilateral sanctions and coercive measures.
Call for Solidarity
Amir-Abdollahian urged the bloc to strengthen cooperation and adopt a unified stance against external pressures. He highlighted that the US policies of unilateralism and sanctions are detrimental to global peace and stability.
BRICS Role in Global Governance
The Iranian minister stressed that BRICS, as a group of major emerging economies, should play a more active role in reforming global governance structures. He called for a fair and just international order that respects the sovereignty of nations.
He also expressed support for expanding BRICS membership to include like-minded countries, which would enhance the bloc's influence in addressing global challenges. The meeting focused on enhancing economic cooperation and finding alternatives to the US-dominated financial system.
Amir-Abdollahian's remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the US, with Washington reimposing sanctions after withdrawing from the nuclear deal. Iran has been seeking closer ties with BRICS nations to mitigate the impact of these sanctions.
