Iran Reports Explosions After US CENTCOM Retaliatory Strikes

Iranian state media reported on Wednesday that explosions were heard in multiple regions across the country, as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) initiated retaliatory strikes described as 'self-defence operations' against Iranian targets.

Explosions Reported in Southern Iran

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) confirmed that blasts were heard in the southern Hormozgan province. Press TV, another Iranian outlet, reported multiple explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Jask, and Qeshm Island. The reports indicate that Iran's armed forces are actively responding to what they term 'enemy aggressions,' with clashes ongoing. Official statements warned that if hostilities persist, 'heavier responses' could follow.

US CENTCOM's Retaliatory Action

The strikes come after a US Army Apache helicopter was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated that American forces launched self-defence strikes at the direction of the Commander in Chief as a 'proportional response' to what it called 'unjustified Iranian aggression.' The operation began at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Iran's Response and Warning

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned the United States to 'leave' the Persian Gulf region for its own safety. In a post on X, he emphasized that Iran's armed forces would not leave any attack unanswered, citing historical consequences for 'intruding outsiders' in the Persian Gulf. Araghchi stated, 'Despite its defeats on the battlefield, the U.S. opted to test our determination. Our Powerful Armed Forces will leave no attack or threat unanswered. Leave our region if you want to be safe.'

The escalating tensions mark a significant confrontation between the two nations, with both sides signaling readiness for further military engagement. The situation remains fluid as international observers call for restraint.
