A 26-year-old Indian tourist tragically died after suddenly collapsing at a cafe on Kamala Beach in Phuket, Thailand. In a mysterious turn of events, three other individuals also fainted one by one at the same establishment for no obvious reason. The incident occurred on May 9, and the Indian embassy has since confirmed the death.
Embassy Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Indian embassy stated, "The Embassy officials are in contact with the family of the deceased to extend all support in this hour of grief. We remain in contact with the relevant Thai authorities who are looking into the incident, and also following the health situation of the others."
Details of the Incident
According to the Bangkok Post, five Indians—identified as Kushagra Agarwal, Rahul Agrawal, another individual with the same name Rahul Agarwal, Aman Agarwal, and Aryan Verma—arrived at the cafe together at around 11 pm. At approximately 1:54 am, four members of the group reportedly lost consciousness one by one for no apparent reason. Cafe staff immediately called emergency services, and the men were rushed to the hospital. Aryan Verma did not display any symptoms.
Hospital Reports and Fatalities
Patong Hospital later reported that two of the men were in a coma and were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment. These were Kushagra Agarwal and one of the two men named Rahul Agrawal. Around 2 pm on Saturday, police were informed that Kushagra Agarwal had died. The remaining three patients were reported to be in stable condition.
Police Investigation and Speculations
Police visited both hospitals and found all four men unconscious and unable to provide statements. Thaiger reported that some locals speculated that illegal substances or illicit alcohol may have been involved, but investigators have not released any findings or official conclusions.
The Indian embassy continues to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the affected families. The cause of the sudden collapse and fainting remains under investigation by Thai authorities.
