Heavy rains lashed the old Mysuru region on Thursday, with Doora of Mysuru taluk in Mysuru district recording the highest rainfall of 51mm in Karnataka. The state's third highest rainfall of 40mm was recorded in Chikkankanahalli of Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district.
The downpour brought much-needed relief to the region, which had been experiencing dry weather over the past few weeks. Farmers in the area welcomed the rains as they are crucial for the ongoing agricultural activities, particularly for the sowing of kharif crops.
Rainfall Distribution
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), several other parts of the old Mysuru region also received moderate to heavy rainfall. The rainfall pattern indicates that the southwest monsoon has become active over the region.
Doora, a small village in Mysuru taluk, received the highest rainfall in the state. The second highest rainfall was recorded in other parts of the state, while Chikkankanahalli in Mandya district secured the third position with 40mm.
Impact on Agriculture
The heavy rains are expected to benefit the standing crops and help in the preparation of land for the upcoming planting season. However, authorities have warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas and have advised farmers to take necessary precautions.
Residents in the affected areas have been urged to stay safe and avoid venturing into flood-prone zones. The meteorological department has forecast more rains in the coming days, which could further improve the water situation in the region.
