A tragic road accident in Chatra district claimed the lives of a 60-year-old man and his 14-year-old grandson late Sunday night. The incident occurred when an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction rammed into their motorcycle near Kasari More at Bagra village.

Victims identified

The deceased have been identified as Sukar Prajapati, a resident of Jabra village, and Alok Prajapati (14) of Chiridiri village, both under the Kanhachatti police station limits. According to family members, Alok had come to his maternal grandfather's house during school vacation. The duo had gone to Salgi village to attend a reception at a relative's house and were returning home when the accident took place.

Police investigation underway

Officer in-charge of the Simaria police station, Surya Pratap Singh, stated, “The bodies have been sent to Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. We are trying to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.” The police are examining footage from nearby cameras and speaking to locals to trace the errant vehicle.

The news of the accident has left the family and the community in shock. The grandfather and grandson were reportedly very close, and Alok was visiting during his school break. The family is awaiting the post-mortem results and further police action.
