A foot overbridge (FOB) linking the Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station with the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station has been opened to the public, providing seamless connectivity for commuters. While the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor was inaugurated on February 22, this particular FOB became operational only last Sunday.
Addressing Commuter Challenges
An official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which implemented the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project, stated that lakhs of people travel daily through various public transport modes at Sarai Kale Khan. Previously, commuters had to endure heavy crowds, chaotic traffic, and long walks to switch between different transport options. The official added that this FOB will address these challenges and provide a long-term, safe, and efficient solution.
Integration with Public Transport
Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, is integrated with major public transport modes, including the metro, railways, ISBT, city bus services, and Ring Road connectivity. To further enhance seamless integration with the underground Delhi Metro station, NCRTC plans to construct a staircase and install a set of escalators near gate number 3 of the Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin metro station, which will connect directly to this foot overbridge. A tender has recently been floated for this work, according to the official.
Commuter Feedback
Anil Bhasin, a commuter who used the FOB on Wednesday, shared his experience. He noted that due to the presence of autos, cars, and vendors, it was chaotic to pass through the area earlier. The situation worsened during rain due to waterlogging. However, he found the new FOB convenient and time-saving.
