Chandigarh witnessed a sharp return of heat on Monday as the maximum temperature breached the 40-degree Celsius mark after a 10-day respite, signaling the comeback of harsh summer conditions. The day temperature soared to 41 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above normal and the first time in June that the mercury has crossed the 40-degree threshold. The last such reading was recorded on May 28, before rain and cloudy weather brought temporary relief.

However, some relief may arrive from June 11 to June 13, when thunderstorms and light rain are forecast, likely pulling down temperatures to between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.
