Bengaluru Suburban Rail: Fresh Tenders for Corridor 4 Double-Decker Stretch
Bengaluru Suburban Rail: Fresh Tenders for Corridor 4

Fresh tenders have been floated for Corridor 4 of the Bengaluru suburban rail project, marking the third attempt to build the double-decker stretch along Mohankumar Road between Mathikere and Yeshwantpur in northern Bengaluru. The double-decker structure will feature a flyover on the lower deck and suburban railway tracks above it, aiming to optimize land use and reduce traffic congestion.

Project Details

Corridor 4 is a critical component of the Bengaluru suburban rail network, designed to connect key areas and ease commuting. The double-decker stretch, spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers, will integrate road and rail transport in a single corridor. This innovative design is expected to minimize land acquisition challenges and construction costs.

Tendering Process

This is the third tender floated for this particular stretch, following previous attempts that faced delays due to technical and financial issues. The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) is overseeing the project and has revised the tender terms to attract more bidders. The new tender includes updated cost estimates and timelines.

Impact on Commuters

Once completed, the double-decker corridor will significantly reduce travel time for suburban rail passengers and provide a seamless connection to the road network. The project is part of the larger Bengaluru suburban rail system, which includes four corridors covering over 140 kilometers.

Current Status

Work on other corridors is progressing, with Corridor 2 and Corridor 3 already under construction. The fresh tender for Corridor 4 is expected to be awarded by the end of the year, with construction slated to begin in early 2027. The entire suburban rail network is targeted for completion by 2029.
