Daltonganj: As many as 840 litres of spirit (extra neutral alcohol), which was being shipped to Bihar, was seized in a raid carried out by Chhaterpur police late on Sunday. The spirit was concealed behind bamboos and plywood in a pick-up van that was intercepted on the Chhaterpur-Japla Road, said Chhaterpur police station in-charge Prashant Prasad.
Details of the Seizure
Police said that extra neutral alcohol (ENA) is extensively used in the production of beverages. The consignment was being transported in 24 jars, each having a capacity of 35 litres.
Six people, aged between 18 and 27 years and from Obra, Baarun, Jamhour, and Daudnagar police station limits in Bihar, were nabbed with the van and the ENA consignment, Prasad added.
Legal Action
The accused have been forwarded to judicial custody under sections of the BNS and Excise Act. Police also recovered five mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 11,000 from them.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal transportation of alcohol across state borders.
