A tragic accident occurred on Monday morning on the Jaipur-Delhi National Highway (NH-48) near Antela village in Kotputli-Behror district, where a 75-year-old man lost his life after being struck by an out-of-control trailer loaded with iron rods. The vehicle dragged him for nearly 100 feet before the driver abandoned the trailer and fled the scene.
Details of the Incident
The accident took place around 8:30 am under the jurisdiction of the Paota police station. According to authorities, the trailer was traveling on a service road when it suddenly veered off, jumped the divider, and crashed into the parking area of a roadside eatery before hitting the victim.
Sequence of Events
CCTV footage from the scene reveals the harrowing moments leading up to the accident. The victim, identified as Surjaram Yadav, a resident of Antela, was standing near a parking divider when he noticed the trailer hurtling toward him. Despite his attempt to run to safety, he was struck by the vehicle and trapped beneath its wheels.
A police officer at the scene stated, "The footage clearly shows the victim trying to escape, but the trailer was moving too fast. He was caught under the wheels and dragged along the ground."
Response and Investigation
Bystanders rushed after the trailer in an effort to stop the driver, but he managed to escape on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. Surjaram was immediately taken to the Paota sub-district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Police have seized the trailer and registered a case. The construction of a culvert near the accident site had diverted highway traffic onto the service road, which may have contributed to the incident. Investigations are ongoing to locate the driver.
