Two labourers lost their lives on Friday after falling from the top floor of an under-construction three-storey building in ward no. 3 of Dhubri. The victims were immediately rushed to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital by local residents, where doctors pronounced them brought dead.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Afzal Hussain, 28, a resident of Bahadurtari village, and Azizur Sheikh, 30, from Jhagrarpar village. Both were engaged in construction work at the site.
Allegations of Negligence
Family members of the deceased have alleged negligence on the part of the building owner, Kalyan Saha. However, Dhubri police station (Sadar) officer-in-charge Pritam Das stated that the incident was a mishap. According to Das, both labourers were working on an overhead water tank when they lost their balance and fell. “It is a mishap,” Das said.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at construction sites in the region. Local authorities are expected to investigate further.
