Residents of Kanpur experienced noticeable relief on Saturday as the maximum temperature settled at 34.8 degrees Celsius, approximately five degrees below the normal for this time of year, despite bright sunshine. The city had recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius on Friday, indicating a marginal drop of nearly one degree Celsius within 24 hours, according to local observatories.
However, the minimum temperature rose to 22.8 degrees Celsius, pointing to relatively warmer nights. Even with a maximum humidity level of 71 percent, south-easterly winds blowing at speeds between 8.3 km/h and 22.8 km/h helped ease discomfort during the day.
IMD Forecast for Kanpur Division
According to the India Meteorological Department, Sunday is likely to witness mild sunshine with passing clouds across the Kanpur Division. Elevated humidity levels are expected to keep both actual temperatures and the heat index moderate.
The IMD has also forecast light drizzle or scattered showers on May 4 and 5, along with strong winds, dust storms and isolated hailstorms in parts of the region.
Meteorological Analysis
Weather expert S. Sunil Pandey from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology said an active Western Disturbance over North India is influencing current conditions. He noted that the system may trigger stormy weather and rainfall across both hilly and plains regions, with the Kanpur Division likely to witness dust storms and hailstorms.
If rainfall occurs as predicted, residents can expect more pleasant weather conditions in the coming days.
