In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Deoghar police busted an interstate brown sugar smuggling network during a late-night operation on Saturday. The operation, conducted in the Mohanpur police station area, led to the arrest of four accused and the seizure of 102.14 grams of the narcotic substance.
Arrests and Seizures
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sheikh Rasel Alam, Md. Samad alias Sameer, Rohit Kumar, and Neeraj Kumar Mahta. According to police officials, two of the accused hail from Birbhum district in West Bengal, while the other two are residents of Deoghar in Jharkhand.
Acting on a specific tip-off, a special police team intercepted a car and a motorcycle on the Bada Jharna–Khargadih road. During the search, officers recovered 102.14 grams of brown sugar, along with Rs 1,49,300 in cash, five mobile phones, one car, and one motorcycle.
Ongoing Investigation
Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar confirmed that more arrests are expected in the coming days. “We have gathered leads that point to a larger network. Further investigations are underway to identify other members involved in this interstate smuggling operation,” he stated.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused are currently in custody and being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the network.
This operation marks a significant step in curbing the flow of illegal drugs in the region. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
