Google Pixel 10a Officially Launches in India with Premium Features
Google has officially introduced the Pixel 10a in India, marking the latest addition to its Pixel 10 smartphone lineup. Touted as the 'most durable A-series smartphone' in the series, this device aims to deliver the premium Pixel experience without the high price tag. While it shares many specifications with its predecessor, the Pixel 9a, several key differences make the new model a compelling choice for consumers seeking advanced features.
Pixel 10a vs Pixel 9a: Price and Availability in India
The Google Pixel 10a is priced at Rs 49,999 in India, whereas the Pixel 9a is currently available at Rs 39,999. Both smartphones can be purchased through Flipkart, Google's online stores, and offline retail partners. The Pixel 10a is available for pre-order and will go on sale starting March 6, offering color options such as Lavender, Obsidian, Fog, and Berry. In contrast, the Pixel 9a comes in Iris, Porcelain, and Obsidian colors.
A significant advantage for the Pixel 10a is its inclusion in the Google Pixel Upgrade Program, launched in December 2025 for the Pixel 10 series in India. This affordability program allows customers to own a Pixel phone with zero down payment and zero interest through low monthly installments. After nine EMI payments, users can upgrade to the newest Pixel model, regardless of the old phone's condition. Notably, the Pixel 9a is not part of this program.
Key Differences Between Pixel 10a and Pixel 9a
Beyond the upgrade program, the Pixel 10a distinguishes itself from the Pixel 9a in multiple aspects. Design-wise, the Pixel 10a features a flat design with virtually no camera bump, unlike the Pixel 9a, which had a slight camera protrusion. Durability is enhanced with Gorilla Glass 7i display protection, offering superior scratch and drop resistance compared to the Pixel 9a's Gorilla Glass 3.
The display on the Pixel 10a is brighter, reaching up to 3000 nits, which improves legibility under direct sunlight, whereas the Pixel 9a peaks at around 2700 nits. Charging speed is another area of improvement, with the Pixel 10a supporting 45W fast charging, a step up from the Pixel 9a's 30W capability. Additionally, while both phones receive seven years of security and OS updates, the Pixel 10a will be supported until 2033, compared to the Pixel 9a's updates ending in 2032.
Other specifications remain consistent between the two models. Both feature a 6.3-inch OLED display, Google Tensor G4 processor, a dual-camera setup with 48MP and 13MP sensors, 5,100mAh batteries, and IP68 dust and water resistance. The Pixel 10a also includes expanded AI features and a longer battery saver mode, enhancing the user experience.
Should You Upgrade to the Pixel 10a?
If you already own a Pixel 9a, upgrading may not be necessary, as most core specifications and features are identical. However, for those interested in the Google Pixel Upgrade Program, seeking better durability, an extra year of software updates, and faster charging, the Pixel 10a presents a worthwhile investment. Its enhanced design and performance upgrades make it a solid choice for users looking to experience the latest in mid-range smartphone technology.
