Massive Fire at Pillow Factory Near Karur

Trichy: A significant fire erupted at a pillow manufacturing unit near Karur on Monday, resulting in the destruction of finished products and raw materials valued at several lakhs of rupees. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the incident.

The facility, located near Gandhigramam, was a temporary structure covered with metal sheets. At the time of the fire, which started around 1 PM, dozens of workers, including migrant laborers, were present inside the unit. Quick thinking and swift action by the employees ensured that everyone evacuated the premises before the flames engulfed the entire building, thus preventing any loss of life.

Firefighters from the local fire station rushed to the spot with five water tenders and battled the blaze for nearly five hours. The fire was finally brought under control around 6 PM. However, by then, the unit had suffered extensive damage, with stocks of pillows and other materials reduced to ashes.
