Mangaluru's HYDGEN Flags Off Eight Modular Hydrogen Generation Skids, Supporting National Green Mission
In a significant boost to India's green energy ambitions, HYDGEN, a Mangaluru-based hydrogen technology company, flagged off eight modular industrial hydrogen generation skids from its facility at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on Saturday. This event marks a pivotal moment in the country's push toward sustainable energy solutions.
MP Capt Brijesh Chowta Hails Initiative as Manifestation of 'Make In India' and 'Back to Ooru'
Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta emphasized that the design, manufacture, and commercial deployment of these modular electrolyser systems at an industrial scale reflect multiple aspirations. He highlighted that this achievement embodies the 'Make In India' call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aligns with his 'Back to Ooru' campaign.
"This initiative must inspire Mangalureans across the world to return to 'Ooru' and actively participate in the region's development," Chowta stated, underscoring the local and global impact of the project.
HYDGEN COO Highlights First-of-its-Kind Technology Platform in India
Manipaddy Krishna Kumar, COO of HYDGEN, explained that the modular industrial hydrogen generation skids manufactured locally in Mangaluru represent a first-of-its-kind technology platform in India. "This achievement aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supports India's National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), while also embodying the 'Make in India' and 'Local for Global' initiatives," he said.
On the dispatch of the eight industrial hydrogen systems, Kumar detailed that each skid is a fully integrated, on-site hydrogen generation system engineered and assembled in Mangaluru. The systems utilize HYDGEN's proprietary PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolyser technology, developed at a level of engineering maturity that remains rare among Indian deep-tech companies in the hydrogen sector.
Key Features and Benefits of the Modular Hydrogen Skids
- Continuous, High-Purity Hydrogen: Designed for industries requiring on-site and on-demand hydrogen, eliminating dependence on cylinder logistics.
- Reduced Operational Costs: The modular architecture allows hydrogen to be generated precisely where and when needed, cutting down transportation expenses.
- Enhanced Supply Reliability: Unlike traditional centralized production models, these systems deliver the reliability that modern industrial processes demand.
Kumar elaborated, "The systems are engineered to provide a sustainable alternative to conventional supply chains, fostering efficiency and cost-effectiveness in industrial operations."
Demonstration of Hydrogen Blending with LPG for Improved Cooking Performance
In a practical demonstration, Krishna Kumar showcased the blending of hydrogen with LPG, revealing that the blended fuel ensures a 30.8% improvement in heating performance while cooking. "While it takes 4 minutes and 20 seconds to boil 500ml of water using an LPG stove, a blend of 10% hydrogen and 90% LPG will take only three minutes," he explained.
He added that the hydrogen-blended LPG stove could offer a viable solution to the current global LPG crisis, highlighting the broader applications of hydrogen technology beyond industrial use.
Presence of HYDGEN CTO and Broader Implications
HYDGEN CTO Goutham Dalapati was present at the event, underscoring the technical expertise behind the initiative. This launch not only advances India's position in the global hydrogen market but also promotes local manufacturing and innovation, contributing to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
The successful deployment of these skids is expected to inspire further investments and developments in the hydrogen sector, reinforcing India's commitment to a greener future.
