Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the all-electric Sierra EV in India on June 30, and a new teaser has confirmed that the upcoming electric SUV will be offered with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. This marks one of the vehicle's biggest highlights yet.
Design and Styling
The production-spec Sierra EV closely follows the design of the ICE-powered Sierra but gets distinctive styling cues. Up front, it features a closed-off fascia with a body-coloured panel stretching across the width, housing the Tata logo. A connected LED DRL strip sits at the top, while main headlamp units are positioned lower down. Vertically stacked LED fog lamps further differentiate the front-end design.
At the rear, the Sierra EV retains the familiar silhouette but features a full-width LED light bar, rugged bumper cladding, and a silver skid plate. The overall design remains faithful to the Sierra nameplate while incorporating EV-specific elements.
Interior and Features
Inside, Tata is expected to position the Sierra EV as a premium offering. Lower variants could feature a dual-screen layout, while top-spec trims are likely to get a triple-screen setup similar to the internal combustion version. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, and a 360-degree camera. Tata is also expected to offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.
Battery and Powertrain
The Sierra EV is expected to slot between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata’s electric line-up. The SUV could be offered with multiple battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while higher variants may use a larger 75 kWh battery pack. The newly confirmed dual-motor setup is likely to be reserved for top-end variants. These versions are expected to use Tata’s Quad Wheel Drive technology, which first debuted on the Harrier EV. Single-motor variants are also likely to be part of the range.
Battery-as-a-Service Programme
Tata could additionally extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to the Sierra EV. Under this model, buyers can purchase the vehicle separately from the battery pack and opt for a subscription-based battery plan, helping reduce the upfront acquisition cost.
Market Positioning and Rivals
Once launched, the Sierra EV will take on rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and Mahindra BE 6 in the rapidly growing midsize electric SUV segment.
