Southern Railway has requested the operation of a new daily train service between Mettupalayam-Podanur-Pollachi-Rameswaram. This service was previously discontinued during the metre gauge conversion.
Other Proposed Services
The other services proposed to be operated from Mettupalayam include:
- 20643/44 Coimbatore-Chennai Vande Bharat Express
- 22609/10 Coimbatore-Mangalore Express
- 16721/22 Coimbatore-Madurai Express
- 16607/08 Coimbatore-Kannur Express
- 16323/24 Coimbatore-Mangalore Express
Additionally, Southern Railway has suggested extending the 66603/04 and 56603/04 Coimbatore-Shoranur passenger trains to Mettupalayam, and utilising them to run between Mettupalayam-Coimbatore-Podanur-Pollachi.
Station Development
Mettupalayam station currently has two platforms. An additional platform is being constructed, which is expected to be completed in July and brought into use by August. This upgrade will enable the station to handle more train services.
