Namma Metro Purple Line Fully Restored After Snag

BMRCL has announced that full services on the Purple Line of Namma Metro have been restored after a technical snag caused severe disruptions at Cubbon Park Metro Station on Tuesday evening. The issue, which led to overcrowding and delays, has been successfully rectified, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

Timeline of the Disruption

The technical glitch occurred around 6:30 PM on Tuesday, affecting trains on the busy Purple Line corridor that connects Baiyappanahalli to Mysore Road. Commuters reported long waits and packed platforms, particularly at Cubbon Park, a major interchange station. BMRCL officials said the snag involved a signaling system failure that forced trains to run at reduced speeds and limited frequency.

Impact on Commuters

Thousands of evening commuters were stranded as trains crawled between stations. Many took to social media to express frustration, with some reporting delays of over 30 minutes. BMRCL deployed additional staff to manage crowds and advised passengers to use alternate routes. The disruption also affected connecting services on the Green Line due to cascading delays.

Rectification and Restoration

“The technical snag has been successfully rectified, and full services on the Purple Line have resumed from early morning today,” said a BMRCL spokesperson. Engineers worked through the night to repair the signaling system. By 6:00 AM Wednesday, all trains were running on schedule, and normal operations were confirmed by 8:00 AM.

BMRCL’s Response

BMRCL apologized for the inconvenience and assured commuters that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents. “We are reviewing our maintenance protocols and will upgrade the signaling system to ensure reliability,” the spokesperson added. The corporation also urged passengers to follow official updates during emergencies.
