In a landmark announcement, Ferrari has officially confirmed that its first-ever all-electric sports car will be named the Ferrari Luce. This revelation marks a pivotal moment for the iconic Italian marque as it transitions into the electric vehicle (EV) landscape. A Collaborative Design Masterpiece with Apple's Jony Ive
A standout feature of the Ferrari Luce is its meticulously crafted interior, developed in partnership with LoveFrom, the design collective co-founded by Sir Jony Ive. As the former chief design officer at Apple, Ive is renowned for shaping the iPhone's iconic design language, and his influence is evident in the Luce's cabin. Ferrari has embraced a clear philosophy: to keep driver interactions intuitive and engaging by prioritizing physical controls over touchscreen-heavy setups. This approach results in an interior that seamlessly integrates digital displays with mechanical switches, dials, and toggles, offering a tactile and immersive driving experience.
Innovative Steering Wheel and Instrumentation
Drawing inspiration from Ferrari's classic three-spoke wooden wheels of the 1950s and 1960s, the Luce's steering wheel has been reimagined using recycled aluminium alloy. It features triangular control pods equipped with aviation-style switches, including rotary selectors for drive modes such as Range, Tour, and Performance. On the right side, Ferrari's signature red manettino dial allows drivers to fine-tune chassis settings, including Ice, Wet, Dry, Sport, and ESC Off. Directly behind the steering wheel is a 12.5-inch instrument cluster, positioned behind the steering column. This setup utilizes bespoke Samsung OLED displays, taking visual cues from aviation instruments. The central dial combines a physical needle with a digital speed readout, while surrounding displays provide critical information like battery status, energy regeneration, tyre pressure, and G-force readings. The upper OLED layer can also display warnings, navigation prompts, and performance indicators.
Unique Controls and Passenger Features
Ferrari has introduced a distinctive launch control system for the Luce, activated by pulling a grip positioned above the driver's head, reminiscent of helicopter controls. Nearby switches manage exterior lighting functions. The centre console includes practical elements such as cup holders, physical buttons for locking and boot access, and dedicated switches for all four power windows. Enhancing the passenger experience, rear occupants are treated to a touchscreen that displays real-time data, including speed and lap times, ensuring everyone stays connected to the vehicle's performance.
Development and Future Reveal
Internally known as Elettrica during its development phase, the Ferrari Luce represents years of innovation and refinement. The final stage of its introduction, including the full exterior reveal, is scheduled to take place in Italy in May 2026.
