Germany has long been regarded as the "safe bet" of Europe, a place where things function smoothly, streets are secure, and the economy remains robust. However, for "Radical Living," a YouTuber boasting 2 million subscribers, that version of Germany is now a thing of the past. In a viral video that has garnered millions of views, the creator, who spent over three decades in the country, announced he has permanently packed his bags. His primary reason: he no longer believes Germany is a suitable environment to raise a family.
'You Have Failed as a Society'
The most poignant part of his message revolves around safety. He explains that having children fundamentally alters one's perspective. "I don't think Germany is a good place to raise a daughter anymore because women, in general, don't feel safe walking down the street at night," he stated. He highlighted that women in Berlin are now advocating for women-only subway cars and taxi vouchers to ensure they can get home safely. To him, this is a clear indication of a societal breakdown. "If a woman can't walk down the street at night and feel safe, you have failed as a society," he asserted.
Everyday Life Deteriorating
It is not just the major headlines driving him away; it is the subtle, irritating signs of a society in decline. He describes visiting drugstores in affluent neighborhoods like Prenzlauer Berg and discovering that everyday items such as shampoo or cream are locked behind glass. "Even in a normal supermarket like Edeka, they are locking up alcohol and Red Bulls—items costing only €1.50—with security tags. What kind of society is this becoming?" he questioned. Even the iconic German Christmas markets are undergoing changes. He noted that some were recently canceled because the "terror defense"—the massive concrete barriers and security measures required to prevent attacks—had become too costly for towns to afford.
Working for the State
On the financial front, he argues that the "German Dream" has turned into a nightmare for hardworking individuals. Between high taxes and social security contributions, he claims he retains only about 30% of his earnings. "Seven out of 10 hours you are working for the state," he lamented. He also criticized the current welfare system, asserting that it makes being "lazy" more profitable than holding a regular job. Meanwhile, the country is grappling with a recession and soaring energy prices. He clarified that migration itself is not the issue but criticized the government for failing to filter out lawbreakers or deport those who should not be in the country. He feels the leaders are making "one bad decision after another," causing the quality of life to decline more rapidly each year.
For years, people told him they moved to Germany because of his videos. Now, he is conveying the opposite message. "I'm sorry guys, things have changed," he said. He added, "The only option you have left is to leave."
