In a major upgrade aimed at improving passenger experience, the Nagpur Division of Central Railway has rolled out a state-of-the-art Smart Digital Locker facility at Nagpur Railway Station. This initiative marks a significant step in modernizing station infrastructure and offering tech-driven solutions for travelers' convenience.
A Leap Beyond Traditional Cloakrooms
The newly installed facility provides a secure, fully automated, and hassle-free luggage storage solution for rail users. Unlike the old-fashioned cloakroom system that requires staff assistance, this system empowers passengers to store and retrieve their belongings independently. The lockers are strategically located near the Upper Class Waiting Hall concourse for easy access.
The entire process is designed for speed and security. Access is granted through OTP and QR code-based authentication, making it quick and user-friendly. Furthermore, the system is entirely cashless, with all payments handled digitally. This not only adds a layer of transparency but also eliminates the need for physical cash transactions.
Enhanced Security and Revenue Generation
Railway officials highlight that the new facility offers enhanced security, faster service, and greater convenience. It is particularly beneficial for passengers with short layovers or those wishing to explore Nagpur city without the burden of carrying their luggage. Beyond passenger benefits, this project is also expected to contribute to non-fare revenue generation for the Railways.
The contract for operating this facility has been awarded for a period of three years. It reflects Central Railway's broader focus on adopting innovative amenities to uplift the overall travel experience.
Transparent and Competitive Pricing
The user charges have been approved based on locker size and storage duration. The rate chart will be displayed prominently at visible spots within the station for passenger awareness.
The pricing structure is as follows:
- Medium-size lockers: ₹55 for 4 hours, ₹70 for 6 hours, and ₹120 for 24 hours.
- Large-size lockers: ₹70 for 4 hours, ₹100 for 6 hours, and ₹150 for 24 hours.
- Extra-large lockers: ₹100 for 4 hours, ₹150 for 6 hours, and ₹250 for 24 hours.
This introduction of smart digital lockers positions Nagpur Railway Station as a forward-thinking hub, aligning with the national push for digital infrastructure and improved public services.
