The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) have commenced a collaborative survey of the Dombivli railway station area. This initiative is part of the Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) project, which aims to enhance urban mobility and infrastructure in the rapidly growing region.
Details of the SATIS Project
According to sources, the proposed SATIS project involves the integrated utilization of land parcels, including the KDMC building, Ramnagar and Vishnunagar police stations, and surrounding open spaces. The goal is to create a modern transit-oriented infrastructure facility that includes designated parking areas, improved pedestrian movement, and organized traffic circulation. Officials stated that the survey is being conducted to finalize planning and assess the available land parcels around the Dombivli railway station precinct.
Population Growth Drives Urgency
Dombivli has witnessed a significant population boom in recent years, leading to increased pressure on existing transport infrastructure. Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde has directed MMRDA officials to expedite the project, emphasizing its importance for the region's development. Officials view the SATIS project as a key infrastructure initiative for Dombivli’s future transport planning and urban development. The project is expected to streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion, and provide better facilities for commuters.
The survey marks the first step toward transforming the Dombivli station area into a well-organized transit hub. Once completed, the project will not only improve daily travel for residents but also support economic growth by enhancing connectivity. MMRDA and KDMC are working in close coordination to ensure that the project meets the needs of the growing population and aligns with broader urban development goals.
