The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched pilot projects employing drones, LiDAR mapping, and Digital Twin technology to identify unassessed and under-assessed properties. This initiative is designed to strengthen property tax collection and create a comprehensive digital inventory of the capital’s civic assets.
MoUs Signed with Four Agencies
On Tuesday, the civic body signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with four agencies to conduct drone-based geospatial surveys and technological demonstrations in selected areas of Delhi. The pilots will utilize aerial drone surveys, 3D city modeling, GIS-based asset mapping, and advanced data analytics to produce highly accurate digital representations of urban regions.
Identifying Tax Evasion
The technology is expected to help authorities pinpoint properties that are either outside the tax net or paying lower taxes than applicable. According to the MCD, the projects will be carried out at no financial cost to the civic body, with participating agencies bearing the expenditure for surveys and demonstrations.
Digital Twin Technology
Digital Twin technology creates a virtual replica of physical assets, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis. Combined with LiDAR, which uses laser pulses to measure distances, the system can generate precise 3D maps of buildings and infrastructure. This allows for accurate assessment of property dimensions, usage, and valuation.
Expected Outcomes
The MCD aims to expand its tax base and ensure fair taxation. The digital inventory will also aid in urban planning, disaster management, and infrastructure development. Successful pilots could lead to citywide implementation, potentially increasing revenue significantly.
