Kanpur is poised to mark its entry into the list of top solar power energy districts in the country. The 225 MW solar power project established by NTPC Green Energy at Dodwa Jamauli in Bilhaur Tehsil is a major center of green energy. This project ranks among the leading solar energy initiatives in Uttar Pradesh and is generating clean energy on a large scale. It is the largest solar project in the state to be operated at a single location.
District Magistrate Visits NTPC Green Energy Centre
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh visited the NTPC Green Energy Centre on Saturday. Amitosh Verma, Senior Manager at NTPC Green Energy, stated that the project has been developed across an area of approximately 1,203 acres. The main plant is situated in Dodwa Jamauli village, while its footprint extends to Nadiha Khurd, Uttari, and Madarrayguman villages. A total of approximately 982,000 solar panels have been installed throughout the entire project.
Clean Electricity Generation and Environmental Impact
Amitosh Verma stated that since its inception, the plant had generated 2,390 million units of clean electricity. The estimated value of the generated electricity was approximately ₹717 crore. The electrical energy produced by the project is being supplied to the Rasoolabad, Bilhaur, Bangarmau, and Malhawa feeders. According to energy experts, the clean energy generated by this project has resulted in a reduction of approximately 1.96 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions to date. This is being hailed as a major achievement in the realm of environmental conservation. Experts believe that projects of this nature will strengthen a non-fossil-fuel-based energy system in the future.
District Magistrate's Remarks
The district magistrate commented that this plant at Dodwa Jamauli has emerged as a robust model of energy self-reliance and environmental conservation. He stated that the greatest advantage of solar energy projects is that the potential for pollution is extremely low. In view of future energy requirements, promoting non-fossil fuel-based energy generation is the need of the hour.
Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, NTPC is also undertaking development works in the neighbouring villages. The company will construct a rural stadium spanning an area of 1.87 hectares in Dodwa Jamauli village. Additionally, solar lights will be installed in Dodwa Jamauli, Nadiha Khurd, and Madarrayguman villages. Benches and other resources will also be provided to the council schools located in these villages.
