In a significant move to enhance pilgrim convenience, the renowned Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada is set to undergo a major digital transformation. The temple management has announced the imminent rollout of comprehensive online services, mirroring the successful model of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
A Digital Leap for Devotee Convenience
The iconic Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, perched atop Indrakeeladri hill, will soon allow devotees to book services from the comfort of their homes. Executive Officer V K Seena Naik confirmed that the initiative aims to streamline the pilgrimage experience by reducing long waiting times and managing the ever-increasing footfall.
All essential services will be accessible through the official website, http://www.aptemple.org, and the dedicated 'Mana Mitra' mobile application. The digital portal will facilitate:
- Advanced darshan slot bookings
- Online purchase of prasadam
- Reservation of parking slots
- Booking of special seva tokens
- Secure digital donation channels
Successful Pilot Paves the Way
The decision to expand digital services follows a positive response to a pilot test during the recent Bhavani Deeksha Viramana festivities. A specially launched 'Bhavani Deeksha 2025' mobile app provided real-time updates on darshan timings to devotees undertaking the week-long spiritual observance.
"There was a good and positive response to the app and it helped devotees a lot. We are planning to roll out more online services soon," stated Naik. He highlighted that the temple is witnessing a massive surge in visitors, with nearly 7 lakh devotees participating in the Bhavani Deeksha alone.
Managing the Pilgrim Rush
The digital shift is a direct response to the operational challenges posed by the temple's growing popularity. On regular weekdays, the shrine attracts between 14,000 to 15,000 visitors, a number that doubles during weekends and festival periods.
"Many a time devotees have to wait for several hours for darshan if they come without prior booking. With online bookings and slots reserved, we can reduce the time and ensure smooth darshan to as many devotees as possible," explained the Executive Officer. The new system is expected to optimize crowd management, minimize physical queues, and ensure a more serene and organized spiritual experience for all.
The move to digitize operations marks a new chapter for the historic temple, aligning it with modern technological advancements while preserving its ancient spiritual essence. Devotees can soon look forward to a more seamless and planned visit to the abode of Goddess Kanaka Durga.
