Jharkhand to Introduce Electric Buses Across Major Districts

Bokaro: The state government is set to introduce electric buses across major districts to modernize the state's public transport system and strengthen electric vehicle infrastructure, Transport Secretary Rajeev Ranjan said on Saturday.

Electric Bus Rollout Plan

Speaking at a press conference at Bokaro Circuit House after inspecting the district transport office (DTO), Ranjan stated, "The state government is working out a plan to procure 40 to 50 electric buses. In the first phase, four to five EV buses will be introduced in key districts to promote eco-friendly public transportation." He added, "The department is preparing a roadmap to develop EV charging stations and related infrastructure across the state as well."

Relocation of Bokaro DTO

During the inspection of the Bokaro DTO, Ranjan hinted that the facility will be relocated to a new location to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

Focus on Rural Connectivity

Highlighting the government's focus on rural connectivity, the secretary said the Mukhyamantri Gram Gaadi Yojana would be strengthened to provide free and safe transportation facilities for villagers and schoolchildren traveling from rural areas to urban centers.

Key features of the scheme include:

  • Routes will be finalized district-wise.
  • Buses under the scheme will be monitored through GPS tracking systems.
  • Subsidies to operators will be released through the district transport office as per norms.

The transport department is also pushing for digitization and faceless services to ensure transparency and ease for citizens, Ranjan concluded.
