Bihar Government Unveils Comprehensive Technology and Education Push
In a significant move to boost technological advancement and scientific education, Bihar Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav announced on Tuesday that the state government has approved multiple initiatives aimed at transforming Patna into an information technology hub while revolutionizing engineering education across the state.
Patna IT Hub Development at Biscomaun Tower
The government has identified the Biscomaun Tower, located near the western end of Gandhi Maidan in Patna, as the focal point for developing the state's premier IT hub. Under this initiative, the IT department has already acquired the ninth, 13th, and 14th floors of the building to create dedicated infrastructure for technology companies and startups.
"We are committed to developing Patna as the IT hub of Bihar," stated Finance Minister Yadav. "Space is being allotted to investors and entrepreneurs at preferential terms to accelerate growth in this sector."
To specifically encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, the government has allocated plug-and-play office spaces on the ninth and 13th floors free of cost to 31 selected startups. This initiative aims to create an ecosystem where emerging technology companies can thrive without the burden of initial infrastructure costs.
Revolutionizing Engineering Education with New-Age Courses
Parallel to the IT hub development, the science, IT and technical education department has introduced a range of cutting-edge graduate-level courses in engineering colleges across Bihar. These programs go beyond traditional engineering disciplines to include:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning
- Internet of Things (IoT) and Network Studies
- Data Science and Cyber Security
- Blockchain Technology and 3D Animation
- Civil Engineering with Computer Application
These courses have been carefully designed to align with emerging global technologies and industry demands, ensuring Bihar's engineering graduates remain competitive in the rapidly evolving job market.
Artificial Intelligence Mission and Centers of Excellence
In another landmark decision, the government has cleared a proposal to constitute an Artificial Intelligence Mission for Bihar. Under this mission, three AI Centers of Excellence will be established across the state with the objective of accelerating social, economic, and regional development through AI applications.
The AI Mission represents a strategic investment in positioning Bihar at the forefront of technological innovation while addressing specific developmental challenges through advanced computing solutions.
Enhancing Scientific Temperament Across Bihar
The government's technology push extends beyond professional education to include broader scientific awareness initiatives. The recently opened A P J Abdul Kalam Science City in Patna will host regular screenings and activities designed to demonstrate scientific principles in everyday life and generate interest in science and technology among school students.
Additionally, administrative sanction has been granted for the release of Rs 39 crore to establish three digital planetarium-cum-space and technology education centers in East Champaran, Jamui, and Purnia districts. These facilities will receive central assistance and are expected to begin operations in the 2026-27 financial year, bringing advanced science education infrastructure to multiple regions of Bihar.
These interconnected initiatives—spanning infrastructure development, curriculum modernization, specialized mission projects, and public science engagement—represent Bihar's most comprehensive technology and education reform package in recent years. The government aims to create a sustainable ecosystem where technological innovation, quality education, and scientific curiosity converge to drive the state's development forward.
