Bangalore Metro Rolls Out QR Code Passes for Unlimited Rides
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has launched a new digital ticketing system. Starting tomorrow, commuters can purchase mobile QR-based periodical passes through the Namma Metro app. These passes offer unlimited travel for one, three, or five days.
No Security Deposit Required
Previously, unlimited travel passes were only available as contactless smart cards. Passengers had to pay a refundable security deposit of fifty rupees. With the new mobile QR passes, this deposit is completely eliminated. The passes are issued digitally on mobile phones, making the process more convenient.
BMRCL announced the initiative on Tuesday. The corporation stated it is continuously working to enhance commuter convenience and promote digital ticketing solutions. This move aligns with their ongoing efforts to modernize the metro experience.
How the New Passes Work
Commuters can buy the passes directly from the Namma Metro mobile application. After purchase, a QR code will be displayed on their mobile screens. At the metro stations, passengers simply need to scan this QR code at the Automatic Fare Collection gates for both entry and exit.
The facility will soon be extended to other mobile applications as well. This expansion aims to make the passes accessible to a wider audience across different platforms.
Pricing Details for Unlimited Travel
Here are the prices for the new Namma Metro unlimited travel passes:
- One-day pass: Two hundred and fifty rupees
- Three-day pass: Five hundred and fifty rupees
- Five-day pass: Eight hundred and fifty rupees
Each pass allows unlimited travel within the stipulated time period. Whether you are a daily commuter or a visitor exploring the city, these passes offer flexibility and cost savings.
The launch of these QR code passes marks a significant step towards a fully digital metro system in Bangalore. It reduces the need for physical cards and streamlines the travel process for millions of passengers.
