AI CCTV network helps crack Rs 14 lakh burglary, 3 held

In a significant breakthrough, the Nandyal district police have successfully cracked a high-value commercial burglary case with the help of an artificial intelligence-powered surveillance system. Three members of an inter-state gang from Rajasthan were arrested in connection with the crime.

How the AI Surveillance Network Helped

The police utilized the advanced ‘CCTV 360’ surveillance network, developed by the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS). This AI-driven system enabled authorities to track the suspects and recover stolen goods. The recovered items include ₹14.01 lakh in cash, a car used in the crime, and 45 litres of illicit liquor.

The Burglary Incident

The case dates back to April 20, when burglars broke into an ITC cigarette godown under the Dhone Town police limits around 3:30 am. The criminals decamped with a large stock of cigarette cartons, triggering a police investigation.

Superintendent of Police Sunil Sheoran formed special teams under Dhone DSP P Srinivas to track the accused. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police set up a check-post near Rudraksha Gutta on Gooty Road. CCTV alerts from the network helped intercept a suspicious vehicle, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.

Details of the Accused

The arrested individuals have been identified as Laxman Ram Kumawat (45), Ghanshyam alias Ganpat (45), and Manak Chand Kumawat (35). During interrogation, they confessed to stealing the cartons and selling them in Hyderabad.

Police investigations revealed that the gang was also involved in four similar burglaries in the Kadapa district. Background checks showed multiple cases registered against them across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are continuing their search for another associate of the gang who is currently absconding. The police are working to trace the remaining stolen property and gather more evidence against the accused.
