RSS Takes Legal Action Against Malicious AI-Generated Content in Assam

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has officially registered a formal complaint with the cyber crime investigation unit of the Assam Police's Crime Branch in Guwahati. The complaint centers on a deceptive AI-manufactured video and an accompanying letter that the organization asserts are part of a calculated effort to tarnish its public image and sow discord.

Formal Allegations of Defamation and Misinformation

In the detailed complaint, RSS Guwahati Mahanagar Sanghchalak Guru Prasad Medhi explicitly stated that the circulated material is "false, malicious, and intended to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the organization." He formally requested the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly, identify the originators and distributors of this counterfeit content, and initiate prompt legal proceedings against them.

Medhi emphasized the broader societal risks, noting that such activities, allegedly executed with malicious intent, possess the potential to disturb public harmony and therefore necessitate immediate intervention by law enforcement. "Necessary action in this regard may kindly be taken in the larger national interest," he added, underscoring the perceived gravity of the situation.

Details of the Fabricated Video and Its Circulation

According to RSS sources, the video in question, described as "fake and AI generated," falsely portrays the organization as expressing dissatisfaction with the BJP leadership in Assam. Notably, the video was found to be fraudulently bearing the logo of a prominent national television channel, a detail that likely enhanced its deceptive appearance and credibility among viewers.

An RSS insider revealed that this video had been circulating on various social media platforms over the past four to five days, amplifying its reach. In a related development, it was confirmed that a separate complaint regarding the same fabricated AI-generated video has already been filed with authorities in Delhi, indicating a potentially coordinated or widespread dissemination effort targeting the organization.

The RSS's decisive move to involve the cyber cell highlights growing concerns over the misuse of advanced artificial intelligence technologies to create and spread disinformation. This case underscores the challenges faced by institutions in safeguarding their reputation in the digital age, where synthetic media can be weaponized to manipulate public perception and potentially destabilize social order.
