Jamnagar Businessman Accuses Facebook Account of Rs 50 Lakh Extortion, Defamation
Rajkot businessman files cybercrime case over Rs 50 lakh Facebook extortion

A 34-year-old construction businessman from Rajkot has approached the Jamnagar Cybercrime police, alleging a serious case of online extortion and defamation orchestrated through a Facebook account. The complainant, Smit Parmar, has named a Facebook account operating under the name 'Vishal Kansagara', an individual named Parsottam Parmar, and others in his formal complaint.

The Sequence of Events: From Fake Posts to Financial Demands

The incident began on December 24, 2025, when Smit Parmar received a warning from his friend, Mahesh Kanjariya. Kanjariya informed him that a fabricated story targeting Parmar was scheduled to be published the next day on the 'Vishal Kansagara' Facebook account. True to the warning, a post appeared on the account on December 25 with a cryptic message: "Prepare for the wedding at Raj Construction Smit Parmar Nitin Parmar." Alarmed, Smit Parmar immediately discussed this post with his elder brother, Nitin, over the phone.

The situation escalated when a second post surfaced on the same account. This post, which Parmar claims was edited using artificial intelligence, carried the headline "Zone Change Scam Coming Soon" and was accompanied by images of various buildings, implying wrongdoing.

The Extortion Attempt and Negotiations

Seeking answers, Smit Parmar again contacted his friend Mahesh Kanjariya, who then reached out to Parsottam Parmar. According to the complaint, Parsottam claimed to know the person operating the controversial Facebook account and offered to facilitate contact. Subsequently, a conference call was arranged.

During this call, a person identifying himself as Vishal Kansagara directly demanded a staggering Rs 50 lakh from Smit Parmar to "settle the matter" and presumably stop the defamatory posts. After negotiations, the demanded amount was reportedly brought down to Rs 23 lakh, with instructions to send the money to an account in Junagadh.

Threats and Political Connection

Parmar's complaint clearly states that he believes the Facebook account was being used with the sole intention of posting false and damaging content to extort money. He further alleged that Parsottam Parmar seemed to be connected to the individual running the account. The businessman also reported receiving threats that a false land-grabbing complaint would be filed against him if he failed to make the payment.

This is not the first time the 'Vishal Kansagara' account has drawn police attention. Notably, Jamnagar Rural MLA Raghavji Patel had previously filed a complaint against the holder of a social media account bearing the identical name, indicating a potential pattern of malicious activity.

The Jamnagar Cybercrime police have registered the complaint and an investigation is now underway to identify all individuals involved in the alleged extortion and defamation racket.
