Delhi Police Arrests Bihar Man for Posting AI-Generated Images of PM Modi
Delhi Police has apprehended a man from Bihar's Arwal district for allegedly posting objectionable AI-generated images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media platforms. The arrest was made in a joint operation involving Delhi Police and local authorities from Bihar, according to an official statement released on Saturday.
Details of the Arrest and Accused
The accused, identified as Siddhnath Kumar, was taken into custody from Maulanachak village in Arwal district. Following his arrest, Kumar has been transported to Delhi for further investigation and questioning by the police.
A formal case was registered against Kumar with the Special Cell in Lodhi Colony, Delhi. During the initial probe, investigators discovered that Kumar allegedly used artificial intelligence tools to create and circulate objectionable images of Prime Minister Modi. These images were posted on social media from multiple accounts, as detailed in the police statement.
Intent and Additional Allegations
Police suspect that the content was uploaded with the deliberate intention of misleading the public and disturbing public order. In addition to the AI-generated images of PM Modi, the accused is also alleged to have shared morphed images involving a woman BJP legislator and a woman leader from abroad, further complicating the case.
Authorities are currently examining the extent of circulation and the networks through which this content was disseminated. This includes analyzing social media platforms and digital footprints to understand the full scope of the alleged activities.
Legal Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Kumar has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 336(4) for forgery, 356 for defamation, and 351(1) for criminal intimidation. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and assess the impact of the circulated content.
This incident highlights growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence in creating and spreading misleading or harmful content online. Delhi Police emphasized their commitment to tackling cybercrimes and maintaining digital safety, urging the public to report any suspicious activities on social media.
