According to the official complaint filed with law enforcement, the victim was initially added to a Telegram group where he was enticed with offers of high returns for making hotel bookings as part of what was presented as a legitimate "investment" opportunity. The fraudsters employed a classic tactic to build trust: they provided the complainant with small initial payouts, which successfully convinced him of the scheme's authenticity and reliability.
Once the victim was hooked, the scammers escalated their demands. They instructed him to make repeated payments under various pretexts, including:
- "Luxury reservation" upgrades for premium hotel bookings
- Security deposits to allegedly secure higher-value transactions
- Tax clearances and processing fees to facilitate withdrawals
The Vicious Cycle of Demands
Each time the victim attempted to withdraw his accumulated earnings, he was met with new requirements for additional deposits. This created a vicious cycle where he kept transferring money in hopes of accessing his supposed profits, only to be asked for more funds.
