AIIMS Patna Conducts Cybersecurity Awareness Initiative

AIIMS Patna organized a comprehensive cybersecurity, cyber hygiene, and digital personal data protection awareness program on Friday. This important event aimed to educate healthcare professionals, students, officers, and staff members about secure digital practices.

Focus on Emerging Cyber Risks

The speakers at the program highlighted emerging cyber risks in today's digital landscape. They discussed practical strategies to build resilience against these threats. The initiative specifically targeted awareness about data governance and compliance requirements.

Healthcare institutions must follow regulations under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the newer Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. The program addressed these legal frameworks in detail.

Leadership Emphasizes Digital Security

Professor (Brig.) Dr Raju Agarwal, the executive director of AIIMS Patna, welcomed all participants. He underscored the growing significance of cyber awareness in the healthcare sector. Dr Agarwal pointed to the rapid digitalization of medical records and healthcare services as a key reason for this focus.

Other senior officials also shared their perspectives during the event. Medical superintendent Dr Anup Kumar spoke about the critical need for cybersecurity to safeguard patients' sensitive data. He stressed that protecting this information ensures uninterrupted digital healthcare services for everyone.

Professor (Dr) Poonam Bhadani, the dean of academics, and Nilotpal Bal, the deputy director of administration, joined in emphasizing strict adherence to cyber hygiene practices. They explained how these practices help prevent cyber threats and protect patient confidentiality effectively.

Expert Presentations on Compliance and Resilience

The program featured detailed presentations from cybersecurity experts. Alvin Antony traveled from New Delhi to deliver his talk. His presentation focused specifically on 'DPDP Act and Rules: Compliance for Healthcare Professionals'. This provided practical guidance on meeting legal requirements.

Saket Jha from CDAC Patna also addressed the gathering. He spoke on the topic 'Securing the future: building cyber resilience in the digital age'. His presentation offered forward-looking strategies for healthcare institutions.

The AIIMS Patna cybersecurity program represents a proactive step toward securing healthcare data. As medical services become increasingly digital, such awareness initiatives grow more crucial for protecting both institutions and patients.
