14 Arrested in Delhi Cyber Fraud Call Centre Targeting US

Fourteen individuals have been arrested in connection with an international cyber fraud call centre bust in the Rajapuri area of southwest Delhi's Dwarka. The accused allegedly defrauded US citizens by impersonating tech support staff of a multinational company and security service providers.

Operation Details

Acting on a tip-off, the Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit conducted a raid. At the scene, officers found the 14 suspects operating from 13 active laptop workstations. A case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Police revealed that victims in the US were targeted through fraudulent pop-up alerts displayed on their computer screens. These pop-ups falsely claimed that the victim's system had been compromised and displayed toll-free numbers for assistance.

Modus Operandi

Joint CP (IFSO) Rajneesh Gupta explained: "Calls generated through overseas call vendors were routed to the Dwarka-based call centre through VoIP infrastructure and spoofing technology. The callers then impersonated security experts and induced victims to make payments via gift vouchers or coupons of various companies for fake technical support services."

Payments were collected through gift cards, cryptocurrency, and cash-pickup mechanisms, according to the senior police officer.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Among those arrested are Pawan Gupta (32), the manager and IT Head; Ved Prakash Gaur (30), the IT executive; and Kushagr Bisnoi (26), the security personnel. The remaining 11 accused were callers. Police added that an operator and supervisor have also been identified, and further investigation is underway.
