UP MLA Rajeshwar Singh Sounds Alarm on AI's Global Impact, Calls for Urgent Reforms
In a significant address from Lucknow, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh has identified Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a decisive turning point in global development, fundamentally reshaping governance structures, economic growth patterns, and employment landscapes worldwide. He issued a compelling call for immediate policy interventions and comprehensive skill development reforms to navigate this technological revolution.
WEF Data Reveals Massive Job Transformation Ahead
Citing authoritative projections from the World Economic Forum, Singh presented stark statistics about the future of work. He revealed that by 2027, approximately 23% of all global jobs are expected to undergo significant transformation due to AI integration. While this technological shift is projected to generate around 69 million new employment opportunities globally, it simultaneously threatens to disrupt nearly 83 million existing roles, creating a complex net effect on labor markets.
The MLA further highlighted a concerning disconnect between industry preparedness and educational readiness. According to his presentation, 86% of employers worldwide anticipate that AI will fundamentally alter their business models by 2030. However, in a troubling contrast, 48% of current students report feeling inadequately prepared for AI-enabled workplaces, underscoring a critical and growing skill gap that requires urgent attention.
India's "Strategic AI Moment" and UP's Visionary Investment
Singh characterized the current period as India's "strategic AI moment," emphasizing that the nation is transitioning from merely adopting AI technologies to actively aspiring for global leadership in developing responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence frameworks. He specifically commended the Uttar Pradesh government for its forward-thinking budgetary allocation.
"The UP government's commitment of ₹225 crore for the UP AI Mission in the 2024–25 budget represents a visionary step," Singh stated. "This investment is strategically directed towards fostering AI innovation, enhancing digital governance capabilities, and establishing advanced AI laboratories within Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state."
Constituency-Level Initiatives and Critical Warnings
At the grassroots level, Singh reported that his Sarojininagar constituency is actively evolving into a digital skills hub. This transformation is being driven through the implementation of smart classrooms, the establishment of digital libraries, and the launch of free AI training initiatives designed to equip local residents with future-ready capabilities.
However, the MLA also issued serious warnings about the potential dangers associated with AI advancement. He specifically highlighted the threats posed by deepfakes and AI-driven misinformation campaigns, stressing the non-negotiable need for robust data protection laws, enhanced cybersecurity measures, and comprehensive ethical AI frameworks to safeguard society.
"We stand at a crossroads where AI can either empower or endanger," Singh concluded. "Our policy decisions today will determine whether this technology becomes a tool for inclusive progress or a source of disruption and inequality. The time for strategic action is now."
