Visakhapatnam: The newly constructed "Trishul with Damaru" at the Kailasagiri hilltop park in Visakhapatnam will be inaugurated on May 9. The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has spent nearly Rs 3 crore on the project, which is coming up on the Hanumanthuwaka side of the hilltop park.
Inspection and Announcement
VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal and metropolitan commissioner N Tej Bharat inspected the ongoing works on this new attraction of the city on Tuesday. Speaking to the media on this occasion, Pranav said that as part of the steps being taken by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to develop Visakhapatnam into an international tourism destination, several adventure activities such as sky cycling, zip-lining, and a glass bridge have already been established at Kailasagiri.
Spiritual and Cultural Significance
"Inspired by the symbols of Lord Shiva, this new addition is expected to bring renewed spiritual and cultural charm to the popular tourist destination of Visakhapatnam. We appeal to all the people of Visakhapatnam to participate in this grand event and make it a success," said Pranav.
The project features an installation inspired by Hindu mythology, blending cultural symbolism with modern engineering. The main attraction is the 55-foot-tall structure combining a Trishul and Damaru, positioned on the Hanumanthuwaka side of the hilltop park. The Trishul represents divine power and protection, while the Damaru signifies creation and the cosmic rhythm, together forming a visually and spiritually significant landmark.
Design and Construction
The structure is built using a mild steel frame and is clad in translucent fibre-reinforced plastic, designed for durability and aesthetic appeal. It will also be enhanced with integrated LED lighting, making it visible both day and night. The Trishul measures about 25 by 22 feet, while the Damaru is 10 by 18 feet in size.
Tourism Boost
"The project will boost tourism in Visakhapatnam," added the VMRDA chairman. He also instructed officials to enhance beautification and greenery by planting attractive saplings, and to complete the installation of aesthetically designed electric poles as soon as possible.
The inauguration on May 9 is expected to draw large crowds, further cementing Kailasagiri's status as a premier tourist destination in the region.
