Lucknow witnessed a mesmerizing evening of classical fusion music at the 'Lai Aur Sur Ka Safr' event, organized by Taal Yatra at the Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium on Wednesday. The event blended tabla, folk, and Western musical traditions, captivating the audience with its innovative approach.
Dedicated to Tabla Legends
The evening was dedicated to the legendary tabla maestros Ustad Allah Rakha and Zakir Hussain, celebrating their enduring legacy in Indian classical music. The program featured a series of vibrant performances that highlighted the versatility of the tabla and the evolving nature of fusion music.
Opening Performance by Raag Yatra International Fusion Band
The event opened with an energetic tabla recital by the 11-member Raag Yatra International Fusion Band, led by Sheikh Ibrahim. The ensemble impressed the audience with their seamless coordination and blend of intricate raags and rhythmic patterns. Their compositions, based on raag Darbari and Pahadi in Dadra taal, drew strong appreciation from the attendees.
Vidyut Ganguly's Masterful Tabla Rendition
The second performance featured tabla artist Vidyut Ganguly, who displayed remarkable command over the instrument. His rendition of teental, along with a series of tukdas and kaydas, highlighted both technical finesse and creative expression. The performance earned enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The event concluded with a folk-inspired segment by Nalini Tripathi, Mudita Pandeya, and Anshika. They performed traditional songs such as 'Gondna gode gondhnari' and 'Peesna peesan lagi', bringing a rustic flavor to the evening.
