Microsoft has unveiled a significant set of new features for Microsoft 365 Copilot, its AI-powered work assistant, as part of what the company is calling Wave 3. Copilot Cowork: Autonomous Multi-Step Task Management

Copilot Cowork then creates a detailed plan, works across relevant tools and files, and carries the work forward while displaying progress in real-time. Copilot Cowork leverages the same technology platform that powers Anthropic's Claude Cowork, integrating built-in skills from both Claude and Microsoft. Researcher Enhanced with Critique Function for Superior Results
Microsoft's Researcher feature, which assists users in tackling complex questions by aggregating information from multiple sources, has received a major upgrade. The new capability, called Critique, employs a multi-model deep research system that uses two AI models instead of one to generate optimal responses and reports.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted this innovation, stating that benchmarks show it delivers best-in-class deep research performance. In this setup, one model plans the task and produces an initial draft, while a second model acts as an expert reviewer, scrutinizing and refining the output before the final response is delivered. The models are sourced from frontier AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
According to Microsoft, Researcher with Critique now scores 13.8% higher on the DRACO benchmark, the industry standard for evaluating deep research quality based on accuracy, completeness, and objectivity.
Model Council: Comparing Multiple AI Perspectives Simultaneously
Another new feature is Model Council, which enables users to compare responses from different AI models on the same question side-by-side. This tool allows for instant analysis of where models agree, where they diverge, and what unique insights each brings to the table. Microsoft describes it as having multiple researchers available at once, providing a broader perspective for decision-making and problem-solving.
