Billionaire investor Mark Cuban recently shared a crucial piece of advice that he once gave to his daughter regarding career preparedness in the age of artificial intelligence. During an appearance on the Big Technology Podcast, Cuban stated that if he were graduating now or if he were a 16-year-old looking for a job, he would learn everything there is to know about AI.
Who Succeeds with AI?
When asked who succeeds with AI, Cuban replied, "Whoever learns how to use the AI tools the best." He elaborated, "It's like I was telling my daughter, if you learn how to use these tools, and you know how to think critically, you're curious, so you're always learning, you're always going to have a job because AI doesn't know the consequences of its actions." He further cautioned against blindly trusting AI, stating, "You need somebody as the buffer to understand how, where, when, and why to or why not to use it. And that's critical. And that's middle management in a lot of cases."
Reinvent Yourself
Cuban also advised professionals to reinvent themselves to stay relevant. He explained that companies will need to completely reinvent themselves, and individuals who understand how to make all the pieces work will be in high demand. "If you're not the person who knows how to do vibe coding or do all these different things with agents and Claude—whoever does is going to take your place," he warned.
Cuban emphasized that using AI to learn gives an edge over others. However, he cautioned against using AI as a shortcut to avoid work, comparing it to a "drunk intern" that leads to struggle. Instead, he encouraged continuous learning and critical thinking to harness AI effectively.
