Goa Government to Notify Artificial Intelligence Policy Within 100 Days

In a significant announcement in the legislative assembly on Friday, Goa's IT minister Rohan Khaunte revealed that the state government is working to notify its Artificial Intelligence Policy within the next 100 days. This move marks a major step toward integrating advanced technology into Goa's governance and education systems.

Substantive Feedback and Policy Formulation Underway

Minister Khaunte emphasized that the policy is currently being formulated, with substantive feedback being received from diverse voices across the state. This inclusive approach aims to ensure the policy addresses the unique needs and challenges of Goa's population and infrastructure.

Digital Transformation Through Goaonline Platform

The IT department has already made significant strides in digital governance through the Goaonline platform. According to Khaunte, 280 services have been brought online across 41 departments, resulting in 9.1 lakh registered users and 19.9 lakh transactions. This foundation sets the stage for more sophisticated AI integration.

AI Readiness Index to Assess Department Preparedness

To facilitate smooth implementation, the government is developing an AI readiness index. This tool will help assess how prepared each department is to integrate artificial intelligence technologies, ensuring a structured and efficient rollout across various government functions.

AI Integration in Education: Schools, Labs, and Teacher Training

One of the most ambitious aspects of the policy involves education. Khaunte announced that AI will be integrated as a structured subject in schools across Goa. Additionally, AI learning labs will be established to provide hands-on experience for students.

To support this initiative, teachers will receive training in modern teaching methods with AI course content available in multiple languages: Konkani, Marathi, English, and Hindi. This multilingual approach ensures accessibility and inclusivity for all students in the state.

The comprehensive policy reflects Goa's commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence for improved governance, enhanced public services, and future-ready education. With these measures, Goa aims to position itself as a leader in AI adoption among Indian states.
