Apple's AI Server Chips Set for Mass Production in 2026
Apple is actively developing its own AI server chips. According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, these chips will enter the mass production phase in the second half of 2026. This marks a significant step for the tech giant as it expands its silicon expertise into the server domain.
Data Center Plans for 2027
Kuo also revealed that Apple plans to start building and operating its own data centers in 2027. In a post on social media platform X, he explained that this timeline suggests Apple expects a substantial increase in on-device AI demand beginning in 2027. The company aims to have tighter control over the infrastructure that powers its AI services.
Natural Extension of Apple's Strategy
For years, Apple has relied on its in-house silicon team to differentiate its products. From the A-series chips in iPhones to the M-series processors in Macs, Apple's custom designs have consistently delivered performance and efficiency gains. Recently, the company shipped its own cellular modems and wireless connectivity chips. The move into AI server-class chips is seen as a natural extension of this strategy.
Deployment Timeline
Apple's AI server chip deployment follows a clear schedule:

Apple confirmed it is teaming up with Google to use Gemini models as the foundation for a smarter, more capable Siri arriving later this year. In a joint statement, Apple said, "After careful evaluation, we determined that Google's technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models."
Kuo highlighted two short-term challenges that forced Apple to collaborate with Google:
- This year's WWDC AI demonstration cannot afford to fail again.
- User expectations for AI service quality have risen with the development of cloud AI. Even if Apple fulfills its past promises regarding Apple Intelligence and Siri, it now seems insufficient, so stronger on-device AI models are needed.
