Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has jokingly acknowledged that his company's explosive growth may be 'too hard to handle.' Speaking at the Code with Claude developer conference in San Francisco alongside co-founder Daniela Amodei, he revealed that Anthropic witnessed an 80x year-over-year growth in revenue and usage in the first quarter of 2026, as reported by Business Insider.
Amodei's Lighthearted Take on Rapid Expansion
Amodei quipped that he would prefer a 'mere 10x' growth, since the current pace has stretched the company's computing resources far beyond the original plan. Originally, Anthropic had expected anywhere from 'a little' growth to 10x, making the actual surge a logistical challenge. The CEO's comments underscore the unprecedented demand for the company's AI tools.
Anthropic's $800 Billion Valuation
Anthropic PBC has reportedly received investor offers valuing the company at about $800 billion or higher, according to a recent Bloomberg report. This would more than double the $350 billion pre-money valuation attached to its $30 billion fundraising round in February. The increase in valuation is attributed to the success of Claude AI tools, which are reshaping coding, cybersecurity, and automation. The company also announced that it had reached $30 billion in annual run-rate revenue, up sharply from $19 billion just months earlier. Analysts believe this growth trajectory explains why investors are willing to invest huge sums in the AI giant. The Bloomberg report further added that Anthropic is also planning a potential public listing in October this year.
Claude Code: The Success Driver
The company's Claude Code service has been the main driver of this hyper-growth, quickly becoming a favorite among developers. Amodei noted that software engineers are often the fastest adopters of new tools, which explains why coding has been the initial focus. He also suggested that this is a mere preview of how AI adoption will ripple across the broader economy. Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers, initially lagged behind ChatGPT but surged ahead in late 2025 when Claude Code gained traction. The company is now in a fierce race with rivals to capture developer and enterprise customers, fueling massive infrastructure demands.
Anthropic Expanding Infrastructure with SpaceX
To meet this increasing demand, Anthropic announced that it has secured 300 megawatts of new computing power at SpaceX's Colossus One data center. Product chief Ami Vora said the additional chips will allow developers to run Claude Code for longer each day, easing some of the strain caused by skyrocketing usage. The company will continue pitching its models at another developer event in San Francisco on Thursday, underscoring its aggressive push to scale.
Amodei has built a reputation as one of AI's most outspoken voices, often warning about the risks of rapid adoption. In past interviews, he predicted that 'essentially all' code could be written by AI within a year and raised alarms about a potential white-collar bloodbath.
