In a significant adjustment to the event schedule, the organisers of the AI Impact Expo have announced that the expo will remain shut for the public on Thursday. This decision affects over three lakh registered participants who were eagerly awaiting entry. The closure is a direct result of strict access restrictions imposed for the movement of global leaders attending the summit. Instead, the expo will reopen on Saturday, extending its original conclusion date from Friday.
Security Protocols and Traffic Restrictions in Central Delhi
Access to the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, the venue hosting the summit, will be tightly controlled on Thursday. Entry is strictly by invitation only, with heightened security arrangements in place. Traffic restrictions are expected across several parts of central Delhi, leading to intermittent diversions around Bharat Mandapam. Delegates have been advised to plan accordingly by arriving early, using designated gates, and relying on shuttle services from notified parking zones such as Purana Qila, Zoo parking, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Extension to Accommodate Public Interest
Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan explained that the extension to Saturday is intended to allow more students, professionals, and general visitors to experience the exhibits once security restrictions are lifted. This move aims to balance the summit's diplomatic engagements with mass public participation, ensuring that the growing interest in applied AI—from healthcare and education to manufacturing and governance—is adequately addressed.
Contrast with Previous Day's Smooth Operations
While Thursday is set to be a day of tight control, Wednesday offered a stark contrast. Day three of the summit saw smooth crowd movement, quicker security clearances, and well-managed queues across gates. Despite a surge in footfall at expo halls showcasing over 600 startups, global technology firms, and country pavilions, volunteers, digital entry systems, and staggered session schedules prevented congestion. This marked a significant improvement from the opening day rush, with packed aisles and steady engagement at demo booths highlighting the public's enthusiasm.
As the summit heads into its final stretch, the focus remains on maintaining this balance between global diplomacy and public access, with the expo's reopening on Saturday poised to draw large crowds eager to explore the latest in AI innovations.
