In a landmark event for technological education, over 100 schools from across West Bengal recently participated in the state's first-ever quiz competition dedicated entirely to Artificial Intelligence. The Smart Bengal AI Quiz Competition, a collaborative initiative by Times NIE and RCCIIT College, culminated in an exciting finale held at the Bhuwalka Auditorium of Shri Shikshayatan School on December 16.
A Pioneering Platform for Young Tech Minds
This groundbreaking competition, which enjoyed support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, successfully channeled the growing curiosity of students towards the emerging field of AI. The event was expertly steered by quiz master Raj Shankar Das, who engaged the young participants with challenging and thought-provoking questions.
The atmosphere was charged with intellectual excitement as students showcased not just rote knowledge, but a deeper understanding of AI concepts and applications. The initiative clearly reflected a national push to foster digital literacy and innovation from a young age.
Winners, Insights, and Future Impact
The champion's trophy was decisively bagged by GD Goenka Public School, Dakshineshwar. They were closely followed by Central Modern School, Baranagar, as the first runner-up, and Narula Public School as the second runner-up. The winning teams were rewarded with substantial cash prizes of Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 15,000 respectively, along with certificates, medals, and trophies.
Beyond the prizes, the true value of the competition was echoed in the participants' reflections. A student from Barisha Purba Para High School, a recipient of the Judges' Choice Award, highlighted the transformative potential of such events, stating that a meaningful AI quiz helps shape more thoughtful, aware, and intelligent minds.
Echoing this sentiment, the team from Modern High School for Girls, also a Judges' Choice awardee, noted that the quiz was an excellent learning tool that sharpened their logical reasoning and critical thinking skills while teaching them about AI.
