Woman Arrested for Fake Social Media Account in Gurugram
A woman has been arrested in Gurugram for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account to defame another woman, according to police on Sunday. The accused, identified as Aarti, a resident of Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody on Saturday from Gurugram.
Fake Account Used to Post Obscene Comments
The complainant reported the incident to the Cyber Crime South police station on May 22, stating that an unknown person had created a fake Instagram account using her photograph and posted obscene and abusive comments to defame her. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and began an investigation.
Revenge Motive Behind the Act
According to Cyber ACP Gaurav Fogat, the accused woman created the fake account as an act of revenge. The complainant had previously registered a criminal case against Aarti's husband, which motivated the accused to target her. ACP Fogat stated, "During interrogation, it was revealed that the complainant had earlier got a criminal case registered against the accused woman's husband. To take revenge and defame the complainant, the accused created a fake Instagram account using the complainant's photograph and attempted to defame her."
Legal Action and Investigation Underway
The police have taken further legal action in accordance with the law, and the investigation is ongoing. ACP Fogat confirmed that additional legal steps will be taken as the probe continues.
