A bizarre incident at the newly built air-conditioned waiting hall of Nagpur Railway Station has highlighted gaps in passenger amenities amid the station's ongoing redevelopment. A 63-year-old passenger from Vijayawada, identified as Kantipudi Venkat, was waiting for his train when the incident occurred around 4:45 PM on Friday.
Details of the Incident
Venkat reportedly slipped while using the washroom in the facility, which was developed as part of the station redevelopment project. His leg became trapped inside an Indian-style toilet seat. Hearing his cries for help, passenger amenities supervisor Atul Shrivastava and other railway staff rushed to the spot. The staff eventually broke the toilet seat to free his leg, during which he sustained injuries.
Medical Response and Family Notification
After receiving first aid at the station, Venkat was shifted to Kingsway Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable, according to railway and Railway Protection Force personnel. Sanjay Mule, Public Relations Officer of Central Railway's Nagpur Division, confirmed that Venkat's family had been informed, and his son had left Vijayawada for Nagpur.
Temporary Closure of Toilet
Following the incident, the toilet in the AC waiting hall near the Itarsi-end of Platform No. 1 has been temporarily shut. The station authorities are expected to investigate the matter to prevent such occurrences in the future.
