The Green Bay Packers experienced a decline in performance during the 2024 season, finishing with a 9-8 record. After losing the Wild Card round to the Chicago Bears, the team is now focusing on roster improvements for the upcoming season.
Packers Eyeing Jimmy Garoppolo
According to a recent report by Bleacher Report's Zach Bachar, the Green Bay Packers could make a move for former Los Angeles Rams backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Bachar noted, "Green Bay still has Desmond Ridder on its roster, but Ridder has been inconsistent when given extended playing time throughout his NFL career. As the Packers look to enter the NFC playoff picture once again, they could choose to bring in a veteran passer instead."
Bachar added, "Garoppolo may be a strong fit in Green Bay given his experience playing under McVay. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was previously on McVay's coaching staff, serving as the Rams' offensive coordinator in 2017."
However, the Packers have maintained distance from trade talks concerning Garoppolo, leaving the situation uncertain.
Rams Want to Keep Garoppolo
Interestingly, the Los Angeles Rams are keen to re-sign Jimmy Garoppolo after his performance dipped in the last two seasons. A week ago, Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed his desire to retain Garoppolo, stating, "Hey, I'd love to have Jimmy Garoppolo back with us... That's a big deal for us. He's earned the right to be able to take his time and do whatever he wants."
Garoppolo has remained silent amid speculation about a potential retirement following a poor run on the field in the last two seasons.
Garoppolo's Recent Performance
In the 2024 season, Garoppolo played in only three games after signing a one-year deal worth $11 million with the Rams. He did not attempt a single pass, as his appearances were limited to kneel-downs to seal victories. Additionally, he missed the preseason due to a two-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
For now, all eyes are on what Garoppolo chooses to do next with his career amid retirement rumors. The Packers' interest adds another layer of intrigue to the offseason.
